The Story of the Storks of A405 Castellar de la Frontera, Spain
Have you ever stopped to admire the unique beauty found among shorebirds? One bird worth stopping to observe is the Black Tailed Godwit, a species of sandpiper belonging to the Limosa genus. Found throughout much of Europe, Asia and Australia, this incredibly resilient creature has adapted itself well in widely diverse habitats from wetlands mudflats to coastal shores. They spend nearly half their lifetime on migrating flights that cover vast distances – with some birds flying more than 10,000 kilometres one-way! They use their long beaks to dig for prey in the mud. This little one was photographed in Spain!
Flamingos are captivating creatures with unique characteristics that make them truly one-of-a kind. Their nests, made from mud, can be found among the tropical wetlands they inhabit. But why do these birds possess such a vibrant pink hue? Surprisingly enough it's because of their diet! As filter feeders, flamingos scoop up microorganisms and shrimp which contain pigments giving them their rosy appearance - all while turning their head upside down to eat! When grouped together in large numbers this stunning species earns its self an impressive nickname: A flamboyance.
